Taiwan students studying at colleges and universities in Fujian province are eligible to receive a one-time subsidy of 5,000 yuan ($724).
Thanks to preferential policies such as this, many Taiwan students are seeking study opportunities in the province. As a result, universities and colleges in the city of Xiamen in Fujian are witnessing a surge in applications.
Xiamen's Jimei University is one of the most popular universities among Taiwan students. A total of 61 Taiwan students took the school's entrance exam recently, and 47 undergraduates and 10 preparatory students were admitted.

According to Jimei University, the newly admitted students will study at the schools of finance and economics, business administration, teacher education, and foreign languages.
"Once I learned that Fujian was recruiting students from Taiwan, I encouraged my child to give it a try. It would be easy for Taiwan students to get used to living in Xiamen as the two places share a similar living environment and cultural atmosphere," said a parent of a Taiwan student.
Xiamen provides diversified choices for Taiwan students. The city has many cross-Straits platforms that can help students to intern, work or start up a business after graduation.
