Xiamen authorities recently opened 50 sports fields at schools in the city in East China's Fujian province, for public use, according to local reports on Dec 19.

In an effort to improve the comprehensive utilization rates of sports facilities at schools, and meet the needs of the public for sports fitness, the government rolled out policies to open stadiums at schools at specific times, offering local residents free services for regular sports and fitness exercises in their neighborhoods.

Local residents can register on the WeChat account of Xiamen municipal bureau of sports, and purchase a personal accident insurance policy for 10 yuan ($1.45), and then enter the school campuses through face scanning verification.

By the end of November, more than 70,000 residents had registered, and people are speaking highly of the greater convenience provided by the government.

In the future, the government will further promote the National Fitness Program. In the three years to 2022, Xiamen will open all sports fields at primary and secondary schools in the city.

Taiwan residents can also register on the app with a mainland travel permit for Taiwan to enjoy a wider range of services.

The opening hours of the facilities at schools are mainly from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, and on weekends residents can exercise from 9 am to 9 pm at primary schools.
