Xiamen in East China's Fujian province plans to open subsidized sports facilities at 34 of its schools free to the public in November, local media reported.

Xiamen opened 14 school sports facilities to the public last year for pilot operation.

The public response has been good since the opening of the sports facilities a year ago. By the end of July this year, the number of people who had used the facilities reached more than 170,000 person-times, according to Fu Yimin, director of Xiamen bureau of sports.

He also said that this year, the school sports facilities management system will be upgraded and optimized.

Registration is no longer limited to local residents. The new system will also include verification functions for non-local visitors, as well as visitors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

In addition, a facial recognition function will be added to the upgraded system to ensure higher accuracy and better user experience.
