Fujian style glove puppetry, known as "Boo Dei Hi" in the local dialect, was performed for Chinese mainland and Taiwan audiences in Xiamen, Fujian province on Nov 2.

Glove puppetry originated in southern Fujian in the 18th century. While its mainland followers stick to the traditional performing style, promoters from across the Straits have sought creative ways to blend the art with local film and television works.

The event included a variety of glove puppets crafted by artisans from the mainland and Taiwan. Experts, scholars and practitioners of the art brainstormed the possibility of integrating glove puppetry with other artistic genres and looked for new development paths.

The show was part of the annual Cross-Straits Cultural Festival which took place in Xiamen from Nov 1 to 4.
