The Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport will begin offering new domestic and overseas flights on Oct 27, the airport announced on Oct 24.

During the winter and spring flying season (Oct 27 to March 28), the airport will offer 174 flights to 125 domestic and international locations in Europe, the Americas, Oceania, and Southeast Asia. The airport is expected to offer 4,034 flights per week during the upcoming winter-spring season, 66 more than the same period in 2018.

Over the past three quarters, the Xiamen airport has opened two direct flights: one to Rangoon, capital city of Myanmar, and one to Sihanoukville in Cambodia. This has helped create a "Silk Road in the air" between Xiamen and Southeast Asia.

In the future, Xiamen will further expand its international flight network with the goal of becoming a major global aviation hub.
