A plaque was unveiled on July 11 for an artificial intelligence (AI) maker joint laboratory which was jointly developed by Xiamen University and the American multinational technology company Dell Technologies Inc.
Yuan Hongwei, vice president of Dell Technologies, and Zhang Jianlin, assistant president of Xiamen University, signed a contract on behalf of both parties and inaugurated the lab.
Zhang said that the establishment of the lab will promote the integration of production and education, and the cooperation between schools and enterprises which are essential to the university's construction of an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The lab will be built into an educational platform for AI training and innovation and entrepreneurship, Zhang added.
Yuan pointed out that Dell is playing an active role in Chinese programs to bring about educational innovation as a response to the initiative of the Ministry of Education to promote the integration of maker culture into higher education. Their cooperation will be based on complimentary advantages and support the construction of a China-US youth maker exchange center and a domestic first-class maker practice base.
Yuan said it will facilitate exchanges between China and the United States in the field of science and technology.
Guests at the unveiling ceremony also exchanged views on the in-depth cooperation on advanced technologies and applications including big data, AI, high-performance computing, and discussed how to use the lab to strengthen personnel training.
