The youth film training camp, a sideline activity of "See Jimei" Youth Film Exhibition, kicked off in Jimei district in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on July 10.

The camp aims to increase the film and television exchanges between young people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.

A total of seven teams from seven universities, including Beijing Film Academy and Taipei National University of the Arts, have been selected to join the youth film training camp.

The seven stood out from among 65 participating teams in the cross-strait university short film competition.

The 10-day camp includes theory and practice. The teams will attend practice sessions at some of the most distinguished attractions in Jimei district.

"We hope that participants can take this opportunity to have a deeper understanding of Jimei and its rich cultural heritage," said Lee Si-Zhen, a mentor for the camp. Lee is a scriptwriter for Stephen Chow, a famous Hong Kong actor.

"The camp will no doubt provide young Taiwan filmmakers with new ideas and inspiration," said a participant from Taiwan.

"See Jimei" Youth Film Exhibition is a supplementary activity of the 28th China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival, which is set to be held in Xiamen from Nov 19-23.
