Zhou Dexin, a 51-year-old security guard at Xiamen University (XMU), will graduate from the university he protects in 15 days with a Bachelor's in Law, local media reported.

The security guard from Chongqing,  juggled being a security guard in the daytime with being a student at night.

His desire for further education was ignited after he learned that XMU's College of Continuing Education had opened an evening school for workers and staff members in 2014.

"No matter how old I am, I will pursue my dream of being a lawyer," Zhou said. Only two of Zhou's 38 classmates will graduate this year.

But this degree is by no means the end of Zhou's education; he has already registered for the National Judicial Examination, a test that qualifies a person to work in particular legal professions in China.

Speaking of his future plans, Zhou said that he will continue to work as a security guard at XMU.

"The best way to express my gratitude for the university is to serve its teachers and students," he said.
