Xiamen in East China's Fujian province saw more than 1.05 million tourist trips during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday, up 18.68 percent year-on-year, according to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism.

Tourism revenue reached 904 million yuan ($131 million) during the holiday, which lasted from June 6 to 8, up 26.11 percent compared to the same period last year.

Data from online travel agencies shows that Xiamen is the most popular tourist destination in China during the holidays.

Trips to the city surged due to Xiamen's attractive coastal location and the abundance of folk activities that were launched during the holiday.

Water-related entertainment, such as paddling in the sea and yacht sailing, were popular choices of local citizens and travelers.

Children and their parents enjoyed the festival in Xiamen by participating in various traditional celebration activities, including making zongzi (pyramid-shaped glutinous rice dumplings), weaving five-color strings, and rowing dragon boats.

The holiday coincided with the season of mature waxberries and, therefore, the waxberry picking gardens were another hot spot in Xiamen for its tourists.
