Haicang district in Xiamen has implemented a range of measures to increase interaction between young people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, according to local media reports.
The district, which is strong in innovation and entrepreneurship, is a hub for high-end talent from both sides of the Taiwan Straits. The district has seized upon the opportunities brought about by the construction of the Belt and Road and the Xiamen Area of the China (Fujian) Pilot Free Trade Zone and has transformed some abandoned factories into cultural and innovation parks. The parks are now home to more than 200 entrepreneurial teams from the two sides of the Taiwan Straits.
In recent years, the district has established a number of innovative and entrepreneurial platforms for youth, including a maker space called "First Maker", which covers an area of 49,000 square meters and is now home to six incubation bases.
Haicang district is expected to implement a number of measures to encourage more youth to start businesses. It will begin offering public classes and inviting experts to provide entrepreneurial guidance in an effort to deepen the integrated development of the two sides of the Taiwan Straits.
