A delegation consisting of representatives from government departments and companies in Singapore visited Xiamen, East China's Fujian province from Nov 23 to 25.

The delegation was led by Grace Fu Hai Yien, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth.

Zhuang Jiahan, mayor of Xiamen, met the delegation on Nov 25 and filled them in on the city's recent economic and social development.

Zhuang said that Xiamen is currently working to open up more to the outside world and contribute more to the Belt and Road Initiative. He expressed hopes of strengthening cooperation with Singapore in economy, port development, culture, tourism and community management.

Zhuang also urged more Singaporean entrepreneurs to invest in Xiamen, adding that the city will continue to maintain a sound business environment and offer efficient services.

Fu was particularly impressed by Xiamen's efforts in urban landscaping and software development; she expressed a desire to replicate elements of the city's success in Singapore.

The delegation members visited Singapore-based OCBC Bank, the first foreign-funded bank in China, and the Software Park in Xiamen and attended the opening ceremony of the Transfong Ventures Scientific Park, which was established by Singapore-based investment institution Transfong Ventures.
