Exports from Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, increased 6.4 percent year-on-year to 288.79 billion yuan ($41.1 billion), 1.5 percentage points higher than the national average, in the first 10 months of this year, according to the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce.

Exports from Xiamen to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations saw a staggering 17.6 percent year-on-year growth, while exports to the European Union and countries along the Belt and Road route increased 4.1 percent and 14.1 percent, respectively.

Mechanical, electrical, and labor intensive products were the city's biggest exports in the January-October period, with clothing, shoes, and textile products increasing 16 percent, 12.8 percent, and 12.8 percent year-on-year.

This year, the Xiamen municipal government has been rolling out a series of policies to improve the competitiveness of its exports, expand its presence in international markets, and nurture new industries.

Meanwhile, Xiamen saw a 2.1 percent increase in imports in the January to October period, bringing them to 230.45 billion yuan, 2.1 percentage points higher than the national average.

The city's overall foreign trade increased 4.4 percent year-on-year to 519.23 billion yuan during this period, 2 percentage points higher than the national average.
