Xiamen Customs in East China's Fujian province processed 1.32 billion yuan ($187.76 million) in consumer imports in October, a year-on-year increase of 6.2 percent.
Consumer imports passing through Xiamen Customs have been increasing for the past 37 months.
In October this year, 950 million yuan in consumer goods were imported in general trade, up 12 percent year-on-year and accounting for 72 percent of the total import value of consumer goods passing though Xiamen Customs. Ninety million yuan in consumer goods were imported in processing trade, a yearly uptick of 21.9 percent.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Taiwan, and the European Union (EU) were Xiamen Customs' three largest sources of imports in October with 390 million yuan, 190 million yuan, and 190 million yuan, year-on-year increases of 25.8 percent, 10.3 percent and 18.4 percent, respectively, being imported from the three regions.
Products from the three regions accounted for 58.3 percent of all imports passing through Xiamen Customs in October.
Consumer goods imported from India via Xiamen Customs saw the fastest growth, with a 5.9-fold increase to 70 million yuan in October.
Food, cigarettes, and liquor were the three most imported items, with a value of 1.09 billion yuan being imported via Xiamen Customs, accounting for 82.6 percent of all imports.
