Xiamen e-commerce firms win big on Singles' Day

E-commerce firms in Xiamen posted 11.9 billion yuan ($1.7 billion) in online retail sales during the Singles Day shopping spree, accounting for 31.4 percent of Fujian's total sales and ranking 2nd among all companies in the province, according to statistics released by the municipal bureau of Xiamen on Nov 12.
Statistics showed that 140 million online retail goods were sold in Xiamen during the Double 11 shopping spree, more than any other city in Fujian, and accounting for 28.3 percent of the province's total sales. The online retail sales of Xiamen's Anta Sports climbed to 1.2 billion yuan, the most of any company in Xiamen.
The annual Singles Day shopping frenzy, the world's busiest online shopping day, has become a major national event for the Chinese. It has helped expand consumption, develop e-commerce, and improve innovation of business models.
