The unveiling ceremony for the China-Philippines Cultural Exchange Center was held on Gulangyu Island, a popular tourist site in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, on Nov 5.

The center will promote more communication and exchange between China and the Philippines, said Mr. Julius Caesar Aragon Flores, consul-general of the Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Xiamen.

Gulangyu Island in Xiamen has important symbolic value for the Chinese – both those living in China and and those living in Southeast Asia. More than half of the 300 historical buildings preserved as cultural relics on Gulangyu Island are owned by overseas Chinese living in the Philippines.

The cultural exchange center is expected to host a wide range of cultural and artistic activities, serving as a new platform for cultural exchange between China and the Philippines.
