A Norwegian film group known as Northland announced that it would be setting up operations in Siming, a district in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Nov 2, according to local media reports.

Northland, based in Oslo, Norway, is dedicated to producing and distributing films and promoting international film festivals.

The company cooperated with partners in Europe, South Korea, Singapore, and China and owns publishing rights to more than 100 movies in the Asia-Pacific and Nordic regions.

After settling in Xiamen, Northland plans to bring more innovative talents from Europe into the film and television industry in the Asia-Pacific region, produce movies and TV series in collaboration with Xiamen, and organize exchange activities for international film festivals.

Xiamen has long been known as a "natural photostudio" by industry insiders in China. More than 100 movies and TV series are shot in the city each year, and in November last year, Xiamen was selected to host the China Golden Rooster Film Festival for the next five years.

Located in Xiamen's downtown, Siming boasts a beautiful natural environment, rich culture and sound business climate. It has rolled out a series of preferential policies to develop the local film and TV industry and established professional platforms to help film crews make movies in the district.

Early this year, Siming was acknowledged as "the most beautiful movie set in China" at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival in France.

On the same day, Chinese and Norwegian film companies launched a co-production entitled Sapphire.
