Xiamen forges ahead with 5G commercialization

Xiamen in East China's Fujian province officially began commercializing 5G services on Oct 31, ushering in a new chapter in 5G communications.

The launch ceremony, hosted by the Xiamen Branch of China Telecom, was attended by a number of government officials and consumers. A wide range of 5G services were offered at the event, which had an admission fee of at least 199 yuan ($28.25).

Hong Xiaomin, director general of the Xiamen Communications Administration, noted that the commercialization of 5G services will bring about great opportunities in the construction of a "Digital Xiamen". Hong added that the city will push ahead with digital industrialization and focus on the construction of infrastructure for a new generation of information technology with the aim of improving the business environment for enterprises.

For years, China Telecom has been devoted to promoting the development of 5G technology and has pioneered things like intelligent medical treatment, smart transportation, and intelligent manufacturing, propelling the city's high-quality development, said Hong.
