Annual marine event draws crowds in Xiamen

The 2019 Marine Carnival Art and Culture Season is currently underway in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province, attracting crowds of visitors keen to learn about the oceans.
The carnival, a highlight of the 2019 World Ocean Week in Xiamen, has been held annually in the city since 2017. This year's event is designed to promote ocean-based tourism and boasts a number of exciting activities, including a model ship show, an international kite festival, and activities to promote understanding of marine life.
The model ship event, titled "The Great Voyage", displayed 120 impressive and unique model ships, helping visitors learn a little about life on the high seas.

The 2019 Xiamen International Kite Festival, a parallel event to the marine carnival, is scheduled to be held in Xiamen this November, with representatives from a number of countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) expected to attend. The festival will feature kite coloring activities and races, with activities to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
