Journalists from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan visited Xinglin Taiwan Investment Zone in Jimei district, Xiamen, East China's Fujian province from Oct 19-21.

During their three-day visit, the journalists visited renowned Taiwan companies, high-tech business incubators, and cultural tourism landmarks in the zone, including Xiamen Shihlin Electric, Taiwan Youth Innovation Park, and the Jimei branch of Xiamen Library.

They then headed to the Jimei Administrative Service Center to experience the convenient, efficient and friendly administrative services offered in the district.

In 1989, the Xinglin Taiwan Investment Zone was approved by the State Council as one of the first four Taiwan investment zones in the Chinese mainland.

Before the establishment of the zone, Jimei was home to three factories with an annual industrial output of 200 million yuan ($28.29 million).

In 2018, the gross regional production in Jimei totaled 68.6 billion yuan, and its general financial revenue amounted to 12.3 billion yuan.

The district houses 798 Taiwan-funded companies, 85 of which are above designated size, 256 entrepreneur teams and 631 young entrepreneurs from Taiwan.

Last year, Taiwan companies in the district generated nearly 33 billion yuan in industrial output.

After 30 years of development, Jimei has grown into a hub for Taiwan investment, and its industrial structure has shifted from agriculture to secondary and tertiary industries.

Mechanical equipment, software and information services, cultural innovation and tourism, modern logistics, new materials and modern agriculture are Jimei's six major industries.
