The second China International Import Expo, or CIIE, staged a roadshow in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province on Sept 26, according to local media reports.

Liu Fuxue, deputy director of the China International Import Expo Bureau, extended a warm invitation to Xiamen companies.

Liu said that the expo provides an important opportunity for Xiamen companies to expand their international business, and he expressed hope that the city will take full advantage of the expo to develop foreign trade and introduce more foreign investment.

Lin Zhenya, deputy head of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Commerce, detailed the preparations made by the Xiamen delegation for the second CIIE.

To date, a total of 1,518 businesspeople from 386 companies and public institutions have signed up for the upcoming event, much more than last year, which was attended by 1,120 businesspeople from 360 local companies and public institutions.

Lin said that the Xiamen municipal government will actively organize local companies to attend the expo and strive to secure more contracts than last year, when the transaction volume of the Xiamen delegation totaled $6.36 billion.

Lin revealed that the Xiamen government will begin supporting imports over exports and plans to roll out a series of policies to this end.

According to official data, the second CIIE, which will be held in Shanghai from Nov 5 to 10, is expected to welcome more than 3,000 companies from 150 countries and regions, including Global Fortune 500 firms and leading companies in various industries.

Last year, the CIIE attracted more than 800,000 visitors and saw a total intended transaction amount of $57.83 billion.
