Gulangyu Island in Xiamen in eastern Fujian province is preparing for a series of exhibitions, featuring culture and arts along the ancient Silk Road, for the upcoming National Day holiday on Oct 1-7.

There will be an Italian contemporary art exhibition at the Kulangsu Organ Arts Center running from Sept 25 to Oct 25.

According to the organizers, the exhibition will bring a multifaceted expression of Italian contemporary art to the audience. More importantly, some creators of the exhibits will come to Gulangyu Island and create works there inspired by the island.

Another exhibition that features rock art on Helan Mountain in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, will take place at Kulangsu Art Exhibition Hall from Sept 30 to Oct 27.

A total of 45 works from the Helan Mountain Rock Paintings Conservation Park will be displayed, some of which are rubbings of precious rock carving relics.

Helan Mountain is one of China's four major examples of rock paintings and carvings. They mainly depict human faces, animals and hunting scenes of nomadic people.

The oldest ones are estimated to be between 3,000 and 10,000 years old.
