Xiamen University (XMU) held its 2019 opening ceremony on Sept 14 with nearly 12,000 new students attending.

XMU combined the opening ceremony of undergraduates and graduate students in 2018 for the first time. So, more than 5,000 undergraduates along with over 6,000 graduate students attended this year's grand opening ceremony.

A freshman from Hong Kong expressed her excitement to local media.

"I feel so excited that I can study in such a beautiful and strong university," she said. "I will study hard in the future and serve my country."

The opening ceremony included students wearing the school badge, making a vow, and singing the school song.
