The Cross-Straits Book Fair, themed on "Books linking both sides of the Straits", was debuted by publishing houses on both sides of the Straits in Xiamen, Fujian province, in 2005. The fair has been held annually ever since, with Xiamen and cities in Taiwan taking turns at hosting and catering to the needs of publishing houses and readers. 

It has been held for 14 sessions as of 2018. Over 8 million books have been showcased at the fair, achieving book sales of 420 million yuan ($61.68 million). A total of 2,360 cooperative projects concerning copyright trade and other businesses have been achieved, creating business cooperation opportunities for cross-Straits publishers. 

The 2019 edition will be held from Sept 20 to 22.
