Fujian posts $121b in exports, imports

Xiamen customs announced recently that the value of Fujian province's imports and exports hit 861.49 billion yuan ($121.35 billion) in the first eight months of 2019, up 5.6 percent year-on-year.
Exports accounted for 547.83 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.1 percent, while the value of imports decreased 1.6 percent to 313.66 billion yuan.
ASEAN and EU countries, as well as the United States, remained the three major trade partners of Fujian. Their trade volume accounting for 46.5 percent of the province's total, worth 157.28, 124.77 and 118.44 billion yuan, respectively.
Exports mainly covered labor-intensive products, growing 15.1 percent year-on-year to 205.95 billion yuan in the period -- in the areas of clothing, shoes, bags, furniture, toys and plastics products.
Mechanical and electrical products contributed greatly to Fujian's foreign trade, officials said. Their exports rose 11.38 percent to 197.85 billion yuan in the first eight months and imports reached 71.82 billion yuan.
Imports of crude oil and iron ore surged 20.1 and 50.7 percent to 28.41 and 27.42 billion yuan, respectively, while that of copper increased to 14.5 billion yuan.
