Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital of Xiamen University and Serdang Hospital, Malaysia's largest public hospital, signed a cooperation memorandum in Malaysia on Sept 14 which will see both sides work together closely on a number of important fronts.

The two sides reached an agreement on the promotion and development of standardized treatment of acute myocardial infarctions.

According to the memorandum, the hospitals will share clinical data and materials, jointly complete scientific research projects and other exchanges and cooperation -- as well as establish a center to select and train outstanding interventional cardiologists for the Philippines, Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.

Officials said this year marks the sixth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative, an important part of which is health and hygiene.

"This is concrete action for promoting the development of the BRI," said Huo Yong, head of the Asia Pacific Heart Association.

"The cooperation will help bring China's cardiovascular disease treatment technology and experience to the international stage and benefit more patients in other countries," he added.

At the beginning of this year, the two hospitals held an academic exchange in Xiamen, where they agreed to cooperate further.
