China International Design Week, part of the China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT), has become an important player in exporting Chinese design to countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, said Lin Run, executive director of the organizing committee, at the opening ceremony on Saturday.
This year's event, which is being held in the eastern coastal city of Xiamen for the fourth year in a row, has invited more than 1,200 guests, experts and professionals in fields such as architectural design, interior design, industrial design, lighting design and soft decoration.
The week will feature a series of design related exhibitions, forums, competitions, and brand-building activities.
Industrial leaders represented by Yang Dongjiang of the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University shared their inspirations and entrepreneurial experience at the ceremony.
Five domestic and international offices located in Southeast Asia and China's Yunnan, Guangxi, Jiangsu and Shandong were set up to further promote the event.
The cities of Fuzhou, Xiamen, Kunming, Wuxi, Wenzhou and Nanning were also named by the organizing committee as youth designer branches and will act as platforms to forge closer ties between young people from around the world.
