The sustainable economic competitiveness of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province is among the top 100 cities worldwide, said Zhuang Jiahan, mayor of Xiamen.
Zhuang made the remarks at a press conference honoring the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which was held in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, on Sept 3.
Over the past few years, Xiamen has ramped up efforts to introduce creative talents, establish innovative R&D platforms for startups, and cultivate high tech companies, according to the mayor.
Zhuang said that Xiamen currently has more than 540 laboratories and technological centers, 203 maker spaces, 95 public technology service platforms, and 22 demonstration bases for innovative small and micro businesses.
He added that over the past two years, the coastal city has also been rated as one of the most dynamic cities in China. The number of patents per 10,000 residents hit 27.5, 2.4 times higher than the national average, and the city is home to more than 800,000 high profile talents.
