A meeting to mobilize and train 998 volunteers for the 2019 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) took place in the city of Xiamen in Fujian province on Aug 30.

Organizers said the massive fair will be staged in Xiamen on Sept 8-11.

Most of the volunteers come from local universities, including Xiamen University, Jimei University and Xiamen University of Technology. They will provide services for conferences and translate documents for the event.

A spokesman for the special office of the Ministry of Commerce in Fuzhou, capital of Fujian province, encouraged volunteers to study and work hard and provide attentive and considerate services for attendees to make them feel welcome and comfortable.

Yang Jingyun from Xiamen University of Technology, on behalf of the other volunteers, said they were committed to maintaining the quality and volunteer spirit of previous CIFITs and offering the most considerate services.

In addition, the meeting also arranged a series of training sessions for volunteers, including briefings on diplomatic etiquette and refreshers on practical oral English.

The organizing committee of the 2019 CIFIT started interviewing volunteers in early June this year and invited teachers from professional institutions to train the student volunteers during their summer vacation.

The summer break events included special trainings for volunteer translators and leadership trainings for team leaders.
