Xiamen University rises in global rankings

The renowned higher education research institute, the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), recently released its 2019 rankings, with six institutes from Fujian province on the list.
CWUR evaluated about 20,000 universities and institutes from 99 countries and regions around the world, among which 2,000 universities make the list.
This year's evaluation criteria were a little different from previous years. There were seven indicators: quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, and research performance which includes research output, high-quality publications, influence and citations.
A total of 298 universities and institutes from China made the list, including 249 from the Chinese mainland, 40 from Taiwan, seven from Hong Kong and two from Macao.
Fujian province has six universities listed: Xiamen University, Fuzhou University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fujian Normal University, Fujian Medical University and Huaqiao University.
Xiamen University moved up 12 spots from 26th to 14th place among Chinese mainland universities, while its global ranking climbed to 267th, 102 spots higher than in 2018.
