International Wushu Competition kicks off in Xiamen

The eighth International Wushu Competition took place in Jimei district of Xiamen, Fujian province on Aug 16.

As a high-level wushu competition, the five-day event attracted competitors from home and abroad. The international contestants come from 33 countries and regions including the United States, Russia, India, South Korea, Brazil, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The event is free to local residents. 

In addition to the traditional wushu contest, taekwondo competitions and wushu grading tests were also held. In order to motivate contestants, excellent athletes will be awarded prizes. 

Coaches and athletes from wushu institutions across the nation as well as foreign athletes sang, danced and performed kung fu at the opening ceremony. 

Huang Ying, deputy director of Jimei district, praised the competition for infusing vitality into the local cultural tourism industry, adding that the local government will continue to provide a platform for the preservation and development of Chinese martial arts.
