Five companies from Xiamen, eastern Fujian province, were shortlisted for the best 100 Chinese internet companies, according to a list jointly released by the Internet Society of China and the information center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on Aug 14.

The five Xiamen companies are 4399, Meitu Inc, Xiamen G-bits Network Technology Co, Xiamen Xiangtong Animation Co and Xiamen Meiyou Information Technology Co, ranking 42nd, 59th, 83rd, 89th and 98th respectively.

All of these companies come from Xiamen Software Park, which has incubated a raft of high quality companies that benefit from the favorable business environment and startup culture in Xiamen. Last year, the operating revenue of Xiamen Software Park totaled 100.12 billion yuan ($14.24 billion) and it housed 4,478 companies.

The top three on the list of best 100 Chinese internet companies are Alibaba Group, Tencent Holdings Ltd and Baidu Inc.
