The new Cross-Straits Gold and Jewelry Industrial Park opened in Xiamen's Haicang district in eastern Fujian province on Aug 12.
The industrial park has been built as a "gold town" -- integrating industrial, cultural, community and tourist functions. It is estimated that in three years, the park's annual production capacity will hit 100 tons of refined gold and 100 tons of processed gold, with the output value reaching 50 billion yuan ($7.12 billion).
The industrial park, co-built by three leading local companies, will make full use of Xiamen's geographical advantages and advance cooperation between gold markets in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
According to officials, based on the park, Haicang district will build a whole industrial chain for the gold and jewelry industry, including processing, wholesale, retail, tourism and cultural innovation.
The opening ceremony attracted representatives from major jewelry enterprises and industry associations, and famous jewelry designers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
