Sixty-four singers from 53 universities in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan gathered in Xiamen on Aug 7 for the 14th Cross-Straits Campus Singers' Competition, local media reported.

The competition is jointly hosted by the All-China Students Federation and Chinese Youth Exchange Association of Taiwan.

Contestants from both the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are grouped together to encourage friendly exchanges.

A competitor from Taiwan National Yunlin University of Science and Technology praised the economic development of Xiamen and is looking forward to making friends with more mainland singers.

The winner of the Best Stage Manner Award from the first year the event was invited to give a speech and wished the best to all participants.

As one of the most influential cross-Straits cultural events, the annual competition, which started in 2005, has made great contributions to promoting cultural exchange and cooperation between college students from both sides of the Straits.
