The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the 2019 academician candidates list on Aug 1. Two of the candidates are from Xiamen University.

Zhang Rong, president of XMU, is candidate of the CAS Division of Information Technical Sciences. Zhang has made a series of innovative achievements with international influence in the field of nitride materials, physical properties and photoelectric devices.

Lin Shengcai, a professor of XMU, is a candidate of the CAS Division of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences. Lin is a cancer molecular biologist and a former dean of the School of Life Sciences at XMU. One of the achievements of the research team led by Lin is revealing how cells prevent cancerization.

The final results will be announced at the end of this year.
