Xiamen in East China's Fujian province launched a big data open platform (http://data.xm.gov.cn/) on July 29, local media reported.

Xiamen took the lead in China in achieving barrier-free sharing of government data in 2018, gathering more than 20 billion pieces of data regarding population, legal persons, space, licenses, credit, health, transportation, tourism, public safety and other fields.

"Data used to be shared only within government departments. Now it's open to enterprises as well," said Tong Pingping, chief engineer of the Xiamen municipal bureau of industry and information technology.

Xiamen introduced high-end technologies to ensure security for data providers.

According to Tong, the open platform can be widely used in finance, health care, domestic service, intelligent customer service, and tourism investment, among others, under the premise of security protection.

More than 40 enterprises and institutions from across the country specializing in big data processing, big data analysis, model algorithm development and big data application development have joined the platform thus far.
