East China's Fujian province recently announced that it would be allowing more freedom in determining the tuition regulations of Sino-foreign cooperative education.

The move was made due to Fujian's progress in developing Sino-foreign cooperative education, as universities are now faced with the difficulty of balancing teaching costs and tuition revenue.

According to the announcement, local universities can choose their own tuition fees, instead of the current unified pricing scheme regulated by the provincial government. The fees, whether they are for arts or science majors, are narrowed respectively within four or three times to the current standard, while certain highly sought-after programs can charge even more.

The announcement was published by the Fujian development and reform commission and the provincial department of finance.
