Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies and the Xiamen government signed an agreement on July 28 to jointly build a Huawei supercomputer center and a base to develop the company's cutting-edge Kunpeng CPUs.
Relying on products and services independently developed by Huawei, the supercomputing center will have a domestic operating system and database system providing end-to-end computing services for the government, state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises and key industries in Xiamen.
As for the Kunpeng CPU base, the company said it will be a safe and reliable software and hardware development platform for Huawei. It aims to attract partners to jointly develop its Kunpeng series of products.
Officials said the two projects were of great significance to the industrial development of Xiamen.
Xiamen has been striving to build a modern industrial system with a high-end manufacturing and modern services industry as the main driver. Hu Changsheng, Party secretary of Xiamen, said during the signing ceremony that the semiconductor and electronic information sectors were the key leading industries.
He also pointed out that the city will take the initiative as an opportunity to build a supercomputing industrial cluster and strengthen its digital construction.
