The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China held an event promoting Fujian province July 5 in Beijing. An eye-catching Chinese lacquer thread sculpture from Xiamen proved very popular with the audience, local media reported.

The lacquer artworks, called Beauty of China, were recommended by the Cai family, an old and well-known family involved for many years in lacquer thread sculpture.

The main character in the picture, a young Chinese lady standing side-on in a close-fitting traditional dress known as Qipao, has a delicate and slender figure.

The young lady, who looks thoughtful with her neck slightly downcast, is a classic Chinese beauty.

Zhang Xueping, the CEO of the Cai Family Lacquer Thread Sculpture Co, said that the artwork depicting a young lady was enlightened by an ancient glamorous lyric poem by the famous poet Li Bai (701-762) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

He added that the decoration and color on the woman's Qipao were inspired by blue-and-white qinghua porcelain from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

According to the report, lacquer thread sculpture is a traditional artform and one of the artistic treasures of Chinese lacquer art.

The promotion event not only highlighted the lacquer artworks from the Cai family but also effectively publicized cultural intangible heritages in southern Fujian province.
