A new cargo flight linking Luxembourg, China and the United States was launched Tuesday, according to airport and customs authorities of eastern China's Fujian Province.
Operated by Cargolux Airlines International, the first flight landed at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport at around 5:00 a.m. and departed for Los Angeles at 7:00 a.m.
The fight first landed in the city of Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province. It carried 39 objects weighing over 23,500 kg to Xiamen and left the city with more than 61,000 kg of goods.
The cargo flight is to be operated once a week.
North America is one of the largest airfreight destinations of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. Prior to the launch of the Luxembourg-Zhengzhou-Xiamen-Los Angeles air route, there was no direct cargo air route between Xiamen and the United States.
Experts believe that the new air route would significantly promote trade among Xiamen, Europe and North America.
So far, the airport in Zhengzhou is the only Chinese airport owning the such aviation right, allowing airlines to transport cargo from Europe to China and from China to the United States.
