In order to promote the traditional techniques, Cai Chaorong has participated in a number of demonstrations, intangible cultural heritage exhibitions and other related activities. He also went to Xiamen's primary schools, middle schools and colleges to popularize his art.
He often thinks about how to inject something more creative into the old tradition, so as to enable his works to cater more to the tastes of the new era and people around the world.
Due to Cai Chaorong's efforts, more and more people -- including many born in the 1990s – have started to learn the handicraft, and one of his works was chosen as the State gift at the 2017 BRICS Summit.
He is now working on an epic lacquer thread sculpture work which features the historical story of Zheng Chenggong, who recaptured what was then Dutch-occupied Taiwan during the 17th century, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the New China.
