Xiamen's education department released a list of over 700 summer camps for primary and secondary school students July 2, most of which will be free of charge, local media reported.
According to the education bureau in Xiamen, Fujian province, these non-profit summer camps are designed for public welfare, and participants only have to pay for their board and transport.
The summer camps encourage students to step out of their classrooms and get involved in the community by participating in various activities such as patriotism education, military, martial arts, computer programming, and robots.
Another eye-catching camp focuses on trash sorting because schools in Xiamen are playing a pivotal role in the implement of separation of trash.
Students and their parents are able to sign up for the camps online or through WeChat and registrations will be verified by teachers via cellphones.
