Thirty-eight design works from both sides of the Taiwan Straits stood out of an industry design competition held in Xiamen, southeast Fujian province, from June 14 to 16, local media reported.

After three days of ratings, special, gold, silver and excellence awards went to 38 design works out of 646 shortlisted candidates, among which a Xiamen business claimed the special award with its industrial 3D printer and won a bonus of 300,000 yuan ($43,456).

Chen Quanzhi, a person in charge, said that this year's event featured more influential, more authoritative and more international contestants than the previous three editions.

According to Chen, the number of participating countries reached to record-high of 22, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

He added that as people's living standard improves, their longing for a higher-quality life becomes stronger. Therefore, the requirements for industrial design have become higher, including in terms of appearance and utility.
