To meet demand from the rapid increase in new energy vehicles in Xiamen, in eastern Fujian province, the city is speeding up the construction of supporting facilities.
The first public direct current (DC) charging station was officially put into operation in Xiamen's Siming district June 12. The station is equipped with seven 120-kilowatt charging piles, which can provide fast charging for 14 electric cars at the same time.
The new station is located in the underground parking lot of the No 8 building of Xiamen Hotel. It will effectively relieve charging problems in the areas of Jiangjunci, Baijia village and Zhenhai Road.
Statistics show that by April this year, 4,400 charging piles had been built in Xiamen, including 1,500 in Huli district and 1,200 in Siming district.
The city also plans to build a new charging station in the Wuyuan Bay area in Huli district.
