Tan Kah-kee, the late patriotic overseas Chinese businessman, appears on the new-issue banknotes in Singapore, local media reported on June 11.

Tan Kah-kee was dedicated to public welfare all his life. He founded more than 100 schools in China and Southeast Asia, including Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore and Xiamen University in China.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore issued the set of banknotes on June 10 to commemorate eight figures who made great contributions to society since the country opened its port in 1919.

The front side of the banknote is printed with the figure of the country's first president, Yusof bin Ishak, and 8 pioneering figures who made great contributions to Singapore's education, culture and community.
