The Republic of Serbia was confirmed as the guest country of honor of the 2019 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), according to its government recently.

In a letter from Rasim Ljajic, deputy prime minister and minister of Trade, Tourism And Telecommunications of Serbia, on May 29 he also expressed his wish to attend the 2019 China International Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Conference and the Green Innovation and Development Forum, which are set to be held during this year's CIFIT.

Serbia is a country situated at the crossroads of central and southeastern Europe in the southern Pannonian Plain and the central Balkans – making it a strategic  country for China's Belt and Road Initiative.

CIFIT takes place in Xiamen every September. The giant fair focuses on investment negotiations and investment policy promotions on a national and international scale, and promotes the development of the national and regional economies in China as well as economic and trade exchanges across the Taiwan Straits.

Last year the fair saw the signing of 1,982 investment projects worth 527.5 billion yuan ($78.59 billion) and drew more than 120,000 representatives from 1,005 industrial and commercial associations. Nearly 5,000 companies representing 128 countries and regions also attended.
