With the aim of further encouraging an annual routine, Xiamen in East China's Fujian province started a series of activities from June 6 for this year's World Oceans Day, which falls on June 8.

A variety of online and offline activities were held to arouse people's awareness of protecting the marine environment and biodiversity.

A proliferation and release activity was held on June 6, with people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits attending. The activity has been held for five consecutive years, and has not only improved biological resources in Xiamen waters, but also deepened the friendship between residents of Xiamen and Taiwan.

Additionally, activities to popularize marine knowledge among children were also held.

With the gradual development of marine awareness education in Xiamen in recent years, the number of primary and secondary schools participating in the activities has increased from four to six.

Also, Xiamen municipal bureau of ocean development plans to hold an investment promotion conference later in June, to explain the city's policies on the marine environment and fisheries.
