China's Ministry of Justice set up a research and talent training base for modern public legal services at Xiamen University (XMU) in Xiamen, Fujian province on May 20, according to the university.

The base is the first of its kind in China, and has the full confidence of the justice ministry in XMU, said Zhang Yan, vice-president of XMU, at the inauguration ceremony.

XMU will make full use of its advantages to offer strong theoretical support for the construction of a modern public legal service system and train high-level professional talents to provide modern public legal services.

Liu Zhenyu, vice-minister of justice, said that XMU boasts a complete set of disciplines and top-level teachers and enjoys a strong reputation in training talents in modern public legal services.

The justice ministry hopes to cooperate with XMU to develop the base into a research hub, a think tank for decision making, and a talent training platform for modern public legal services, added Liu.
