Rural tourism in Xiamen, East China's Fujian province was popular during the recent Labor Day holiday, according to the local tourism authority.

The city's countryside scenic spots entertained 687,000 visitors during the four-day break, up 21.2 percent year-on-year, and rural tourism revenue soared 22.1 percent year-on-year to 90 million yuan ($13 million).

In recent years, the local government has supported the development of rural tourism by integrating it with agriculture in the form of land, capital, talent and policies.

As a result, a number of desirable attractions have emerged, including the countryside complex Damao Mountain Place and the dragon fruit produced in Dazhai community.

Moving forward, the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will help local villages develop their agriculture, advance the construction of key rural tourism projects, and construct more roads running through beautiful countryside scenery.
