1.First-rated business environment

Xiamen is the first to refer to the business environment indexes of the World Bank with the aim of creating world’s first-rated business environment. In 2018, its business environment ranked 2nd among 22 cities across the country that was evaluated by the National Development and Reform Commission. Its measures in areas such as dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, and trading across borders take the lead in the country.

Its social credit system has been improved. In 2018, its overall credit index ranked 2nd among 36 provincial capitals and sub-provincial cities and above.

2.Ecological living environment

Xiamen is China’s renowned international tourist city, known as the Garden on the Sea.

It has a moderate climate, with an annual average temperature of 20.7 C. It boasts 130 gardens, with the green coverage rate reaching 43.6 percent. It had 360 days of fairly good air quality in 2018, with the rate reaching 98.6 percent.

3. Educational resources

It has 1,357 schools at all levels, including 16 institutions of higher education, 117 middle and high schools, 301 primary schools, 731 kindergartens, 187 adult schools, and five special needs schools. It also has many academic exchange centers, large libraries, science and technology museums, and other educational facilities.

There are three international schools for foreign children: Xiamen International School, Manila Xiamen International School, and Concordia International School of Xiamen. Three more are under construction or planned to be built: ITG-Xiehe International School of Xiamen, Xiamen Huarui International School, and Vanke Meisha School in Jimei district.

| Xiamen University

A top Chinese university included in the country’s Project 211 and 985 and Double First-rate Project. Five of its disciplines – chemistry, marine science, biology, ecology, and statistics – have made it on the list of world first-rate disciplines. The university currently has 22 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It is known as the Top University in South China and the most beautiful university in China. It built China’s first independent overseas university campus in Malaysia. 

| Huaqiao University

The Huaqiao University is directly subordinate to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. It is a key university supported by the country and a Double First-rate university of Fujian province. It now has over 5,000 overseas Chinese students, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students, and foreign students from over 40 countries and regions.

| JiMei University

It was established in 1919 by Tan Kah Kee, a renowned and patriotic overseas Chinese. It is a top provincial-level university and supported by the Ministry of Transport and State Ocean Administration.

4.Healthcare

It has 1,804 medical institutions at all levels, including 54 hospitals, 39 community healthcare service centers, and seven disease control and prevention centers. Among the hospitals, eight are third-grade class-A, which are able to provide foreigners with medical services.

The city has 13 key national clinical specialties.

The residents’ main health indexes approach the average level of developed countries. The average life expectancy has reached 80.75 years old.

| The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University 

It is listed in Top 100 Hospitals in China by the Institute of Asclepius Hospital Management, and is Fujian’s first hospital accredited by Joint Commission of International Health Institutions (JCI).

| Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital, Xiamen University

It is the only hospital in Fujian province that entered the top 100 hospital in 2018 STEM (Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics) in the discipline of cardiology.

| Xiamen Chang Gung Hospital

It is the first Taiwan-invested hospital on the Chinese mainland. It ranked 14th in a 2017 list of top 100 competitive private hospitals in China released by the Institute of Asclepius Hospital Management.

| Xiamen Humanity Hospital

It is a modern third-grade non-profit hospital established by Benevolence Medical Foundation sponsored by Xiamen C&D Co. It employed a batch of high-profile medical experts.
