Xiamen in Fujian province is promoting the upgrading and renovation of forest landscapes along the skywalks through the city's Huwei Mountain and Xianyue Mountain.
The improvement will be implemented in two phases, covering 1301.5 mu (86.77 hectares) and 1317.9 mu.
Most of the forests in Xiamen were planted from the 1950s to the 1970s. Because of poor growth, pests and diseases, the forests only have a few tree species, resulting in a single overall landscape.
According to Xiamen's forestry bureau, the city will build seven parks along the skywalks and replant seasonal plants so visitors can appreciate different sceneries during different periods of the year.
Official statistics show that the forest coverage rate in Xiamen has reached 22.1 percent to date.
